The positive decline of digital dependencies

OK, just so that everybody who is not yet aware
of it knows I now openly admit here that I'm an Apple
addict, and have been for years. But for the iPod
shuffle, there is more in it for me than just the next
gadget down the line. I really ejoyed reading this guest post on the
Revinvented Blog. It does captures a lot on the
cultural side of it.
I do have another reason why I do prefer the shuffle over any of the other iPods, other than that it's small. It comes without dependencies, just the thing, headphones and you're ready to go - no charger to worry about, no cables, no plug-converter. That fits my life style so perfectly:
As an Software Architect, I do travel a lot and I always have my PowerBook with me. Cost for me is not so much the price but the weight and the impact my freedom of movement. I don't want to lug around more chargers and cables like anything. Going on 9 hours transatlantic flight now means I have better in-flight entertainment than most travellers in my class ;) at zero cost.
Sidenode: it strikes me odd thinking about it right now - mind you it's totally shuffle unrelated: why did airports decide that we're going on international flights? Doesn't that sound boring, non-descript, normal, grey to you? I always relish the thought, sound and images conjured up by the term transatlantic. Sounds much more stylish, retro-futuristic, loungy and fun in a 70s PanAm-inspired style, doesn't it?

This time there is no turning back. The time has
finally come for good tools. For us, good ideas will
always come back, granted, sometimes year later to
haunt you, but they will come back. Still, it's worth
it!
So once again we embark on this journey, this adventure to let one of our creations roam freely through the deep jungle of the internet... and we're glad you could make it to join us. Stay tuned, as the pressure builds and trip begins - again...
